Pinhole Camera
The Central Heart
Pictured below is the Central Heart that would be found in the central forest from my anti-bullying invented culture. It reflects the internal organs of the people with a central heart at the top. The heart is the foundation of the people and extremely important to them. It represents the hope and life that is pumped into their land. There is also a mirror at the center that allows any person to look into themselves. They can see the love, the kindness, the hurt, the sorrow, etc. From their reflection, they can learn how to change their inner self accordingly.
This is a project that was assigned in my 3D Art-making Across Cultures class. Originally, our class was assigned this pinhole camera project to use with light-sensitive photo paper. Unfortunately, our class has not been able to put the cameras to use due to the stay-at-home order during the COVID-19 pandemic. This camera is made from a tin can that has a removable lid. The removable lid allows me to place the photo paper inside. A tiny hole has also been poked through to let the light into the can. The hole was created with floral pins, but I think a strong safety pin may work as well. The tricky part of this project was utilizing the air-dry clay. I found that it would not stick to the metal can. Since it was having trouble sticking, I painted the can with gesso. The gesso helped the clay to stick, however, after the clay dried, some pieces did fall off. I was able to hot glue some of the pieces back together. This air-dry clay works better in large pieces. I found that the clay cracks and breaks easily if the clay is rolled too thin.
